Flood-proof rice could feed millions

The scientific journal Nature has reported that two genes, SNORKEL1 and SNORKEL2, give certain strains of rice the ability to survive floods by rapidly elongating their stems when immersed in water. This discovery has the potential to benefit millions of people who live in flood-prone areas.
